These massive copper coins weigh nearly twice as much as a U.S. silver dollar and are the largest copper coins ever used in daily business. The intricate monogram of Catherine the Great is featured on the obverse, while the reverse depicts the Imperial Double-Headed Russian Eagle.When the Communists took control of Russia in the 1900’s these coins were aggressively melted down due to their connection with the Czar.
