In 1609 the Dutch East India Company launched the ship Half Moon, a state of the art vessel equivalent to today’s Space Shuttle. It was designed to find the Northwest Passage, a mythical waterway through the interior of North America. Her captain, famed explorer Henry Hudson, sailed her up the river to be named after him and landed on Manhattan. You know the rest of the story. To commemorate the 400th anniversary of his find, the Royal Dutch Mint has issued this Proof Silver coin depicting an aerial view of lower Manhattan and struck in 15.5 grams of 92.5% sterling silver!
