Gold Proof Honors the World's First Rotating Bridge

Millenium Bridge Proofs Starting in 2004, the Royal Mint began a new four-year series of £1 notes with a different design each year representing the four parts of the United Kingdom: Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England. The 2007 £1 Gold Proof features the historic Gateshead Millennium Bridge, the world’s first rotating bridge. The Queen officially opened this London Bridge in May 2000. The Queen dedicated the bridge “as a symbol of the new millennium to the people of Southwark and the City of London and to all who shall pass over it from all over the world.”

This one-year-only design has a very limited mintage of only 1,500 worldwide. The 2004 and 2005 in the series have already sold out. With the changeover to the Euro seemingly imminent, this may be the last £1 coin introduced in Great Britain. Your gold Proof comes in a deluxe Royal Mint individual display box along with an official Mint Certificate of Authenticity.

Also available as a £1 Silver Proof

This limited-edition coin celebrates the United Kingdom’s engineering feat by featuring a superb depiction of the bridge on the reverse side. Ian Rank-Broadley’s elegant portrait of the Queen graces the obverse side. This one-year-only design is struck in .925 sterling silver. Includes elegant presentation case and signed Certificate of Authenticity.
