This silver "Patriot Half Dollar" was struck by the U.S. Mint in 1925 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the battles of Lexington and Concord. The obverse features a Minuteman armed with a musket and his plow in the background. It also bears the inscription "Patriot Half Dollar," which refers to the U.S. Revolutionary War soldiers and to Patriot Day, which is celebrated every April 19 in Massachusetts. The reverse depicts the historic Old Belfry Church in Lexington. In 1775 its bells summoned the Minutemen to battle.
