These 1923-series $1 Silver Certificates give new meaning to the term “big spender.” Up until 1928, the U.S. printed “oversize” or “horse blanket” sized currency which was redeemable for silver coins still being struck in 90% silver. These were the type of bills carried by Charles Lindbergh and J.P.Morgan. In 1928 the familiar size notes we carry today were introduced to the American public.
